My story in America started back in 2001 when I moved to the Chicago suburbs from the Philippines with my parents. I at first had so much trouble adjusting to this new environment along with learning a language that I was very unfamiliar with. After studying for many years in the American school system I learned that my future career would involve starting up my own business. My parents sacrificed so much for me to live the American dream I am now chasing. My passion to start a business bloomed when I chose to study at DePaul University. I am currently seeking a degree in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. Additionally, I have minors in the subjects of International Business, and Hospitality Leadership with a concentration in Food and Beverage. I have a big passion for food and taking care of others which is why I would want to start a Food Service business, specifically a cafe. Moreover, I would like to obtain knowledge about the location of the products I would be sourcing out which is why I chose to study the subject of International Business.My current experience is leading me on the path of starting my own food business someday. Over the summer of 2020, I had an internship at Lettuce Entertain You where I enhanced my leadership skills through leading other interns in creating an original restaurant concept. I currently work in a seasonal position as a barista at Knead Bakery & Cafe in Schaumburg, IL. This job has allowed me to follow my passion for coffee by learning how to make different cafe beverages. In the past, I worked as a field server for both Food For Thought Chicago and Paramount Events Chicago and this position has given me serving experience along with a certification in Basset and Food Handling. I have a deep passion for food because of the culture I grew up in. My parents always made sure that there was good tasting food on the table. They eventually showed me how to cook the traditional Filipino food I grew up on and I fell in love ever since. I used to spend hours watching the Food Network with my parents and picking up new skills and new techniques to cook food. My love for helping others also stemmed from my parents always doing their best to provide me with anything I would need. Being exposed to such generosity and kindness influenced me to always want to help others and make sure that everyone I meet is happy. I hope my future business can do the same in not only providing the food that makes everyone smile but also provides the best experience for these people coming into my establishment.
