At HotelTonight, I am a Android Manager and I work with an amazing collaborative team that takes enormous pride in our Android app. The goal is to build the best hotel booking experience possible for our millions of users. We stress every detail of the app to continuously ensure that it's fast and easy to use. The crowd seems to like it, TechCrunch gave us a Crunchie award for best on-demand service!Part of my role here is to identify and pursue upcoming trends in the Android development and design world. At Blackboard I led a team of Android developers responsible for building mobile apps such as Mobile Learn and our branded apps used by institutions.I was responsible for ensuring that our products were both functional and beautiful.

The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) maintained a small computer network. There was a web application that was responsible for maintaining the students' transcripts and their class registrations. Walter provided both technical and developmental support at MFRI.Support tasks included installation and configuration of both desktop and server machines. Typical requirements were reinstallation of Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Redhat Enterprise Linux. Additionally, troubleshooting malfunctioning hardware and software was common.Development roles performed by Walter included system administration, system testing, web application development, and participation in development planning. Tools typically used in this role were Redhat Enterprise Linux, Perl, Apache Web Server, and MySQL. The specific jobs that were done on site varied from week to week. completed a technical internship at a government research project. This internship was two months in duration and culminated in a presentation, a written technical report, and the implementation of a web services extension to the system. The overall goal of the system was to create a database of information on earth science experiments conducted around the world. The database contained pointers to the datasets that resulted from these experiments.Walter implemented a web service interface to this moderately sized database system. This allowed researchers to retrieve various details about datasets from the system. Essentially, scientists were able to design their own methods of accessing the information due to the way in which the information was presented by the web service.
