CurrentI provide rigorous research, analysis and advisory services to stakeholders in the international maritime industry. Seafaring experience on deck and in the engine room combined with executive tours with shipowners and charterers in the dry-bulk and tanker space brings high-level expertise in shipboard operations, marine transportation strategies, seaborne trade analysis, and economics of shipping and shipowning. I have also been engaged in bringing to the maritime industry artificial intelligence (AI) such as machine learning and language processing tools to harness the value of shipboard generated data. Clients include investment institutions, industrial shippers and charterers of vessels of all descriptions, ports and logistics companies, and other stakeholders who seek bespoke synthesis of information on a shipping venture, shipboard operations, structure of the industry, and strategic drivers of rates and values. I had an Executive tour at BHP-Utah Minerals (now BHP-Billiton) in San Francisco, and was a partner at Jones Bardelmeier Co. Ltd in Nassau, Bahamas. I hold active licenses as 3rd Mate on oceans and 3rd Engineer of Steam and Motor. By virtue of equivalency, I am also Master to 100 GT. B.Sc. degree in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering at the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, was followed by seagoing tours on merchant and naval vessels. I did graduate work in finance at UC-Berkeley.I formed Mitchell Consulting Group, Inc in 1995 in Nassau, Bahamas and relocated to the Baltimore area in 1997. I have also served on the Boards of several charitable and educational organizations, and mentored youth at our church. I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in London, UK.
