Work in the theater includes the musical staging for the Broadway, National and London Companies of CITY OF ANGELS, and choreography for LEAVE IT TO JANE at the Goodspeed Opera House. He has also directed and staged companies of CAMELOT, HELLO DOLLY!, CABARET, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and APPLAUSE. Directed and Choreographed a an original production of HOAGY, the life of Hoagy Carmichael, at the Coconut Grove Playhouse and has directed I REMEMBER YOU a new comedy by Bernard Slade starring Tony Danza at Gary Marshall’s Falcon Theater. Most recently Directed L.A. DELI by Sam Bobrick at the Marilyn Monroe Theatre in LA, BAD HABITS by Terrance McNally, BILOXI BLUES by Neil Simon and A FEW GOOD MEN BY Aaron Sorkin at The Hollywood Fight Club Theater. Directed & Choreographed PAZZAZZ a new musical. Book, Music & lyrics by Richard Sherman & Milt Larson. In development:MOON OVER PARADOR book by Leon Capetanos & Paul Mazursky, Music by Bill Conti and Lyrics by Gerard Alessandrini. Co-Director, with Mr. Mazursky and Choreographer.

.L.A. DELI a new comedy by Sam Bobrick. We played a six week run (March 22nd through April 27, 2014) to very successful reviews. Wonderful cast, great design team....great experience!

Painter is a seven time nominee and a three-time EMMY AWARD winner for outstanding choreography in television, which includes “Musical Comedy Tonight for PBS GREAT PERFORMANCES, four ACADEMY AWARDS shows, two TONY AWARDS shows, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOLLYWOOD and the 25th ANNIVERSARY of THE KENNEDY CENTER…Currently…Choreographer THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT and A CAPITOL FOURTH. Both shows hosted by The National Symphony Ochestra, Joe Mantegna, Gary Sinise, Jimmy Smits, with world famous musical guest stars from around the world. Held on the West Lawn of the Capitol in Washington DC, with 350,000 in the audience and broadcast live on PBS. Painter has also directed and choreographed the Bal du Moulin Rouge, at The Las Vegas Hilton. Two editions of Ringling Bros. Barnm & Bailey Circus and Industrial Shows for Gallo Wine and General Motors. Plus shows for Las Vegas Headliners: Ann-Margret, Julio Iglesias, Englrbert Humperdinck, Suzanne Sommers, Tony Danza, Bernadette Peters, Flip Wilson, Nell Carter, Lou Rawles, Joel Grey, Michael Crawford and SYLVIE VARTAN, at the Casino de Paris and The Palace De Congress in Paris.
