On June 14, 2017 I was nominated by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Court of Claims and I was confirmed by the Senate on June 19, 2017.I previously served as a Town Justice at the Greenburgh Town Court, County of Westchester, State of New York, on a part-time basis. The Greenburgh Town Court is the busiest Town Court in New York. The Town Court has a criminal and civil docket.I maintained a part time law practice in White Plains, New York, from August 2013 to June 19, 2017.Prior to being elected as a Town Judge, I entered private practice in January, 1985. I transferred out of my former law firm known as Rivera & Colon, LLP, on August 1, 2013. While at the firm, I concentrated in business law, commercial litigation, and real estate. I was appointed as a Referee, Receiver, Court Evaluator, and Guardian by various Justices of the Supreme Court in different Counties in NYC. I conducted numerous pre-suit hearings for the Comptroller of the City of New York under Section 50-h of the General Municipal Law involving police misconduct, motor vehicle, and premises cases. I am a former Assistant Attorney General for the New York State Attorney General's Office (August 1981 to January 1985). I tried over 40 cases during my tenure defending the State of New York in the NYS Court of Claims. I am also a former Law Clerk to the New York State Court of Appeals (1979 to 1981), New York's highest court based in Albany, NY. I received an AV® certification mark, which means that I was ranked by my peers in the legal profession at the highest level of professional excellence.
