PresidentAdventure Pilot, Llc Jan 2005 - PresentMckinney, Texas, UsI decided to take a chance at entrepreneurship. As a private pilot I saw a need for a better navigation tool, so me and a business partner took a year and built the iFly GPS - a cutting edge (at the time) portable GPS designed for general aviation pilots. Over the years this product has grown and evolved, and now runs on Android, iOS and Windows platforms. I have remained active in iFly GPS and related code bases (as this is my passion), however my primary role has morphed to the guy responsible for every aspect of the company from software, operations, marketing, finance, hiring, business dev, etc etc. And I love it! Well, most days I love it ;-). But I wish I could spend more time coding. -
V.P. Product DevelopmentTrx, A Concur Company 1993 - 2005Atlanta, Georgia, UsI was hired in 93 as a programmer. My position, experience, and responsibilities grew as this company grew from 75 or so employees to several thousand upon my leaving in 2005. I was instrumental in the successful development and release of many key technologies for TRX, such as ResAssist, Southwest Direct, RESX, SELEX, and more. I worked with key clients in the corporate travel space such as Sabre, American Express, Expedia, BCD Travel, and countless travel departments. Eventually promoted to the position of V.P. of Product Development, responsible for running development and operations teams for several enterprise products. As my technology skills were constantly being exercised, I also (through sweat, tears, and no small amount of books) developed my business and leadership skills. -
Sr. Software EngineerSnl Call Center 1988 - 1993This was a mid sized (400 employee) call center that did contract inbound and outbound marketing calls. I was putting myself through college and got a job here working the phone lines. Everything was very manual - typewriters, fax machines, banks of analog phones, etc. I recognized massive opportunities to use computers to optimize things like tracking employee schedules, managing breaks, reporting call loads, etc. I wrote up a proposal, management approved, and a position was created for me "Computer Assistant". I was basically their in-house programmer. I spent the next 5 years streamlining their operations top to bottom, across numerous departments. I mostly used a DOS based Microsoft technology, Quick Basic, for much of the work. Some Pascal and legacy work on an AT&T System 85 phone system. I'm still in contact with some of the leadership from this organization, and have great references. The company fell on hard times and basically closed doors in 1993.
