The Spring of 2020 marks a new beginning. I have formed a new law firm with old friends John Thomas and John McConnell. John Thomas and I have collaborated on cases since 2003 and tried multiple cases together (all victories). John McConnell and I have also worked on cases together for about a decade. The firm, known as Thomas Williams McConnell, PLLC, is a civil trial firm with an emphasis on business-related disputes. Since I focused my law practice on civil trials in the mid 1990’s, I have tried dozens of cases in multiple Texas counties (Bexar, Duval, Hidalgo, Travis, Williamson, Victoria and others). I have tried cases in federal court from Texas to Maine. I have litigated in state or federal courts in California, Florida, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia and Wisconsin. I became board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law in 2014. I have tried a wide variety of cases. In 2004, John Thomas and I received an $11 million dollar verdict on a breach of lease case that involved complex fraud and piercing the corporate veil issues. The jury awarded our client $5 million in punitive damages and more in attorney’s fees than we had sought. In 2007, I received a seven-figure verdict in a breach of contract matter involving the sale of a $9 million apartment complex. In 2009, I tried a tortious interference case for two doctors in South Texas and won a million-dollar verdict. In 2010, with Jack Modesett in the lead, we won the largest medical malpractice verdict in Texas for that year in a conservative Victoria County.More recently, I have tried cases involving real estate fraud, minority shareholder oppression, shareholder derivative claims, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, oil field safety, fraudulent transfers, constitutionality of local sign ordinances, nursing home abuse, declaratory judgment claims involving interpretation of state administrative rules, construction defects and claims involving enforcement of OSHA worker safety regulations. I have made a career going toe to toe with some of the country’s largest law firms and some of the bar’s biggest names. After over 30 years in practice, the best is yet to come..
