Oem Police SergeantPaterson Police Dept Nov 1990 - Jul 1996Worked as a Police Officer in conjunction with Regular Officers to augment the force during a time when hiring was frozen for full-time officers by the Governor. Duties included patrol, investigation and later supervisory duties of a 60 man OEM Dept. 20+ hours per week were required and often exceeded. Throughout my tenure, I was in charge of Communications for the Division and instructed dispatchers as well as doing at least one shift a week as Tour Commander responsible for all the officers in the field. My promotion to Sgt after 3 years put me as 5th in charge of 60. I left the Department on good standing as I needed to dedicate more time to my full-time career. The life skills and leadership lessons I learned were invaluable and I still apply them to my work today.
