Walter Witt is an American-born pianist and educator based in Paris. A life long student of the works of Chopin, Walter began studying piano at age 5 with Mae Gilbert Reese, performing Mozart's D minor concerto with the Westchester-Marina del Rey symphony in Los Angeles at age 12. At 13, he was selected together with other students to perform with the LA Phil as part of their "Stars For Tomorrow" young artists program. At 16, he won first prize in the California Music Teachers Association piano competition, which led to masterclasses with renowned pianist and pedagogue, Menachem Pressler, founder of the Beaux Arts Trio. Following graduation from Yale, Georgetown and an international business career, Walter settled in Paris with his wife and four children and attended the Rachmaninoff Conservatory. He has since re-dedicated himself to teaching and to performing and writing about music and the piano. Walter specializes in the "French school," notably Chopin, Fauré and Debussy, and has an abiding passion for Bach, Schubert, Brahms, Liszt and Rachmnaninoff.
