About Wama Gbetibouo

Curiosity has been the largest motivating factor for me in my life. I committed to using the tools I’ve learned as an engineer and start applying them in more business-related contexts. I did this through joining the Technology and Management Program at Georgia Tech, where I started developing the project management and technical leadership skills I needed to satisfy my ever-growing curiosity. At my core, I’m an engineer. To me that means that any problem can be solved with the right pieces around you. I joined Caterpillar’s Leadership and Technical Development Program (LTDP) shortly after graduating from undergrad in the summer of 2017. The rotation program placed me in three unique roles across the manufacturing space over the course of three years. My first year, I served as a supply network specialist working with various global facilities in ensuring shipping schedules remained current. Afterwards, I had my first experience leading a team of direct reports in the York distribution center where I oversaw inbound receiving functions for the facility.I am now serving as a section manager over our Generator Set and Power Module commodity, where I will be leading a team of 60+ production employees to deliver quality products on time in a safely manner. This year, our product line will be expanding and I will help drive engineering and process changes as we begin to scale our launch within the business unit.I love talking and connecting with people. Connect with me and let’s chat!!

Listed skills include Autocad, Inventor, Solidworks, Matlab, and 6 others.

Materials Planning Manager

Current

Irving, Texas, Us

Jun 2023 - Present

Senior Operations Manager, Energy Storage Systems (Ess)

Irving, Texas, Us

In this role, I am to be the primary driving force for velocity and process control.

Apr 2022 - Jun 2023

Genset And Power Modules Section Manager

Irving, Texas, Us

I transitioned into this role when the group was splitting up into a two-shift operation. I was to lead 50+ direct reports in achieving monthly production metrics while also managing cross-functional projects with internal stakeholders. With our backlog steadily growing due to industry-wide supply chain troubles, it was important to be cautious and ensure the team remained focused and engaged throughout the year. I Managed and created tools for our clean-to-build (CTB) process in order to dictate which units we could effectively start in production without providing a WIP constraint. This resulted in an increased daily output of 2 units/day on the Genset Line and radically reduced downtime on the Power Modules stall build area by allowing us to be proactive in procuring parts before commencing the build. In addition to managing continuous improvement projects, I identified gaps within the team in order to create, advertise, interview, and fill job requisitions for the group. In April of 2022, I received the LPSD General Manager Award for Discretionary Effort as a nod to the impact I added to the group in 2021.

Mar 2021 - Apr 2022

Marine Main Line Operations Section Manager

Irving, Texas, Us

After I completed the rotation program, I shifted from a supply chain role to being a section manager on the operations side. As a section manager for the Marine Main Line, I was to manage 16 hourly production employees to safely and efficiently build C32, C18, C12 and C9 marine engines. In navigating the world of operations, I had to assess and report up on daily safety, quality, velocity and cost performance metrics. Process changes were critical in order to stay proactive to safely meet our build rate expectations, and my background allowed me to assess the gaps and implement changes. Whether it was changes to our standard work or strategic cross-training with experienced employees, no day was ever the same working in this role. I used an engineering approach to improve retention for new hires by identifying three entry level stations on production line and develop an RCCA project management template based on Lean Six Sigma principles. I was not in the role for long, but it has been critical in my development as a leader.

Jul 2020 - Mar 2021

Supply Chain Section Manager

Irving, Texas, Us

My final stop as an LTDP landed me in the Griffin production facility. As a section manager over the supply chain team, my main objective was to safely maintain 99% inventory accuracy to support the production lines. Some highlights of my time in this role include:- Maintaining a 0% recordable injury safety culture - Instituted daily audits of "High Dollar Parts" to minimize engine "out of process" events. - Appraising Ghost Rack material delivery system and implemented steps resulting in reduction of extra parts and lost production time by 8%- Evaluating agency needs to identify areas for employee cross-training to increase team flexibility

Distribution Supervisor

Irving, Texas, Us

I moved on into my first managerial role with Caterpillar in our York Distribution Center. I was responsible for a team of 15 associates within the IPC (Inbound Processing Center) where we served as the gateway for incoming material from Grimbergen, Belgium. I oversaw the team's daily operations which include receiving large and small material from the shipping containers, de-consolidating them into the appropriate outbound bins, and shipping out both stock and emergency material throughout the day. Additionally, I improved our loading dock efficiency by implementing changes to our footprint and instituted cross-training and personal development programs within the team in order to lower our overall attrition rates.

Jul 2018 - Jun 2019

Project Manager

Irving, Texas, Us

The first stop in my time as an LTDP was in Mossville, IL where I served as Supply Network Project Manager. In this role, I worked closely with 8 global Caterpillar production facilities and suppliers in order to streamline communication on emergency down orders. I spent the second half of my rotation collaborating with design and supplier engineers to analyze failure mode frequency and document corrective actions in the form of a set of 51 characteristic matrices.
