Program Development And Manager, Watch For Wildlife Nova ScotiaSierra Club Canada Foundation, Atlantic Chapter May 2015 - 2019Nova Scotia, CanadaWatch for Wildlife (www.watchforwildlife.ca) is a new province-wide, public education program to help prevent wildlife vehicle collisions and raise awareness of: 1) how to prevent wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs), 2) what to do when a collision occurs, and 3) who to contact when a collision does occur. 4) Public education materials will also include Species at Risk identification and contact information to report sightings and collisions that involve Species at Risk. There is little public information of this kind provided in the Atlantic region, and it is desperately needed. ‘Roadkilled’ wildlife statistics are staggering - and there is no public information available to help reduce the numbers. Public safety and economic impact of vehicle collisions are equally major concerns. Also, while we have a number of excellent wildlife rescues in Nova Scotia, too few people know to call them, or which one they should call if they do hit an animal. Also, there is no public education readily available about how a driver can prevent collisions with wildlife. Please contact me if you are interested in getting involved with the program as a volunteer (collision data collection) or donating to the program: wandab@sierraclub.ca -
Program Development, The Board Of Directors, Sierra Club Of Canada FoundationSierra Club Of Canada Foundation 2015 - 2016Sierra Club of Canada Foundation is the sister organization to the U.S. Sierra Club which is the longest-standing environmental organization in North America and was created by the visionary naturalist and writer John Muir. The Sierra Club of Canada empowers citizens to act and speak for the environment in their local communities. We work on: policy analysis and change, community participation in environmental assessment, challenges to short-sighted natural resources development (i.e. fracking and oil sands), protecting endangered species and habitat for all species, aboriginal efforts to preserve ecosystems, and environmental education (especially for young people). Our mandate is to be a voice for nature. Our work is informed by science and driven by commitment and community. -
