Throughout my lengthy tenure with BWH, I took on roles with greater decision-making authority and oversight of programs and initiatives serving vulnerable and at-risk communities. In my most recent position with BWH, I spearheaded programming and operations delivering comprehensive, high-quality healthcare for more than 21K patients, with an emphasis on improving outcomes through strategies and tactics that incorporated racial equity, social justice, and economic development. I led a staff of 300 associates in 3 departments, and oversight of a $23M annual operating budget.Highlights of my accomplishments included addressing the needs of thousands of residents through programs such as a Health Equity Grant Initiative and women’s health programs that supported prenatal care and improved birth outcomes. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we created an equity strategy for impacted communities that secured access to testing and vaccinations and addressing their broader social needs. I was later appointed to the Massachusetts COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Group.

In this senior leadership role, I oversaw a wide range of programs and priorities focused on addressing needs of underserved communities, such as higher infant mortality, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The role included control of a $5M budget and managing a 26-member staff. Priorities included driving engagement within the community through workforce development and education/employment opportunities and creating infrastructure for health-equity research.A significant achievement was delivery of a patient navigation program that vastly increased the number of colonoscopy screenings and slashed the rate of no-shows. We also increased critical support to victims of violence by building out our violence intervention programs.

I joined BWH reporting to BWH executive leader, directing complex projects, executive-level staff operations, and development of programs and governance systems and processes. As the office’s liaison, I managed critical relationships and confidential matters while overseeing Board dealings and subcommittees; I also served on the senior staff of the Boards of trustees.Highlights included a key role in a citywide effort to reduce racial disparities in healthcare; contributions as part of Mayor Menino’s Disparities Project Hospital Working Group; and advancement of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion hiring objectives through a new, dedicated office.

I oversaw a portfolio of programs supporting health needs of vulnerable groups. Initiatives included driving an increase in medical delivery locations and programs to assist low-income women with securing jobs in the organization.Working with a local cancer center, I captured a multimillion-dollar grant that provided nearly $1.5M to gain access to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment for women of color.

Served as de facto deputy executive director for programs developed and implemented by $9M privately funded initiative to revitalize neighborhoods in the South Bronx.
