Connecting PeopleWang Xia got her Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science, Tsinghua University, and got her doctoral degree in Linguistics from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.Wang Xia served Tsinghua Big Data Industries Association under the Institute for Data Science, Tsinghua Univ., as the first General Secretary from 2014. The Association changed to Tsingdata Big Data Industries Association under the China Society for Promotion of Science & Technology Commercialization in May 2017. It is one of the leading AI & Big Data community in China, with hundreds of members in AI and Big Data areas, from startups to public companies. The association aims to build a specialized, trusted innovation eco-system, in order to enable and empower partners to cooperate and grow together.From 1999 to 2012, she worked for Nokia Research Center, leadig various research units as Staff Researcher and Research Manager, including Asian Voice UI, Asian Interaction Solutions, Emerging Market User Experiences, Mobile Social Experiences and Long Tail Solutions. She was in charge of several key programs in Nokia Research Center, and served as Nokia's representative in several EU and China 863 projects. She initiated joint laboratories with top universities in China and Asia for Nokia.She started her research from speech recognition in 1996, expanded to speech and language processing, speech synthesis, machine translation, multimodal user interaction, user experiences, mobile services, big data, etc. She established Nokia Research Center in Shenzhen in 2010, focusing on device & service innovation, which laid good foundation for her journey on entrepreneurship. She co-founded a big data company in 2012 and found her true love in building a non-profit eco-system, "connecting people", which led to her current role, trying to promote AI and Big Data applications in various areas.
