Patriciah Wanja Kimani is an unforgettable trailblazer who makes the most out of every life experience. She is not just a survivor of human trafficking and forced labor; but also a solution-oriented writer, author, researcher, social media influencer and human rights defender. She is a law student, and technical advisor in Kenya's Alliance 8.7 Pathfinder process. As a safe migration consultant, Wanja is passionate about helping people find the right opportunities both locally and abroad in an effort to curb human trafficking. Having fallen into the trap of human trafficking in 2021, she has since remained in the counter-trafficking movement in various capacities and adhering to the 4Ps. 1.Prevention & 2. Protection: She is very vocal about the issue of human trafficking, constantly creating awareness on how other people can avoid falling prey. She also educates the masses about their rights as migrant workers. Locally, she tells people about the red flags to spot before accepting a job. As a researcher, she focuses on ethical protocols for engaging survivors and VOTs. Needless to say, she is a certified child protection specialist. Wanja has also made several mainstream media appearances both locally and internationally, not only to share her story but to also propose solutions to the transnational organized crime trafficking in persons is. Attending counter-trafficking and anti-slavery forums both virtually and in-person- locally and abroad, has put her a notch higher as a human rights defender and a counter-trafficking consultant. Thanks to technology, she has been able to take online courses on counter-trafficking and international relations for free! By being empowered, she is able to empower other people. It feels good to have more to offer than just personal stories. 3. Prosecution & 4. Partnerships: Wanja has been able to liaise with a local organizations to provide legal assistance to survivors and potential victims of trafficking that have been conned by agents in the name of "recruitment fees". Enablers and perpetrators of human trafficking need to be held accountable if we want to win this fight. If it weren't for the various organizations that engage her at different capacities, she would have been just any other statistic. However, she has been able to rise above that and contribute gainfully in formulating Kenya's Roadmap towards attaining Pathfinder status. She looks forward to networking more, and to see counter-trafficking frameworks strengthened until, eventually, we put an end to this problem of human trafficking.

Technical AdvisorAlliance 8.7 Dec 2023 - PresentNairobi County, KenyaWith the lived experience of forced labour, I have gone ahead to study courses that put me a notch higher to not only amplify survivors' voices, but to also propose practical, attainable and sustainable solutions in line with Alliance 8.7. My position in Kenya's Alliance 8.7 Technical Committee is not one I take for granted because much is expected of me including, but not limited to, writing reports, preparing PowerPoint presentations, and doing the actual presentations in Alliance 8.7 consultative meetings. The most significant milestone has been in drafting and editing Kenya's Roadmap document amongst a team of renowned experts. -
