We used mice as a model system to investigate the effect of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) on carcinogenesis by environmental carcinogens. I worked 19 hours per week in performing mouse husbandry, euthanasia, surgery, organ harvesting, cell culture, data analyses, research paper editing, and biochemical/molecular biological experiments such as RNA extraction for cDNA and RT-PCR.

As a member of the UCLA Undergraduate Research Consortium specializing in Functional Genomics, I worked on a project to find genes in Drosophila involved in hematopoiesis and finding human homologous. I performed larvae dissection under a microscope and conducted in bioinformatics analysis of large expression datasets.

I was the Academic Senate Chairperson of the Student Government Association (SGA). I worked with the college president, administrators, and six other SGA members to resolve issues in college strategic planning, financial, and faculty and student relationships. I also trained and assigned fifteen student representatives to Committee and Academic Senate meetings.
