I developed major programs for SatoTravel in various other sectors, negotiated and operated contracts and alliances, and provided other strategic and operational support.

Reed Elsevier is a major international publishing company with headquarters in London and Amsterdam. I served as CIO for a newly-formed business unit within the Reed Travel Group, at the time publishers of Travel Weekly, OAG, the Hotel and Travel Index, and many others. I managed all phases of general and technology-based business development and strategy activities, including Internet services and electronic commerce. I supported the company’s diversification initiatives and was full-charge program manager for its largest business initiative, with a development budget exceeding $100 million. I also participated in operational due diligence, contract review and administration,

Global Travel Computer Services is the largest provider of information and business services to the Canadian travel industry, supporting over 1,500 locations across Canada. I directed business development, marketing, and sales, supported customer relationship management, strategic alliances, technical analysis, and project costing for the company’s business activities.

EDS is the largest computer services company in the world, with a long-established and successful travel industry business unit. I was program manager for operations and business services supporting the company’s largest travel industry customer—which was at the time the second largest EDS contract. I was responsible for customer interaction, business services and planning, system operations, application architecture, design, and development enterprise-wide, and business development activities for a major account, resulting in a technology-driven new business entry strategy. I personally architected and engineered a high-performance POS and transaction-handling strategy.

USTravel was, at the time, the third largest U.S. travel distribution company (after American Express and Carlson), with 960 locations coast-to-coast, over 2,000 employees, and $1.5 billion in sales. I was CIO responsible for the information needs of the company’s extensive customer portfolio, in addition to staff and customer management for the company’s 24-hour reservation service. My staff responsibilities exceeded 140 people, with a budget in excess of $20 million. I directed all phases of technical systems strategy, development, and operation. As a senior member of the Executive Committee, I participated all major strategic and operational decisions—across all operating units and not limited to technology.

Citicorp is the parent of a major global money-center bank. I was a senior executive for the company’s extensive travel interests, which included its 1987 acquisition of Woodside and its associated operations center. I had offices and staff in London, Stamford, Connecticut, Boston, Massachusetts, and Rockville, Maryland. I managed technology, business development, and acquisition activities, coordinated vendor relations, negotiations, and program management with the corporation’s information business unit and was responsible for European strategy and operations—which included facilities and staff in the UK.

Sontag, Annis and Associates was the original specialty consulting practice targeting travel and transportation. I was an integral part of senior staff and management, and as a result participated in many of the major business events affecting the composition of the travel industry today. This included the first major centralized corporate travel purchasing projects (DuPont, IBM, and Hewlett Packard; I was program manager for each), the origination of the Galileo GDS (I was senior advisor to British Airways and was instrumental in their acceptance and launch of the project).
