After leaving Business Objects, I founded Next Analytics. The goal was create analytic middleware, which is the valuable processing that occurs between the raw data in a database and what the user sees when they look at charts and crosstabs. Having had so much experience in BI, I knew this was where the core value proposition for any reporting or analysis.

Co-founded and grew OLAP@Work from 2 to 45 people in about a year and a half. Oversaw several rounds of financing, company relocations, and spent a great deal of time travelling to public relations events and visiting clients. In early days, developed a significant portion of the software. The company was acquired by Business Objects for $22 million (CDN).
When I started at Cognos, I had ten years of development experience. I was assigned to PowerPlay, an obscure product (at the time) where there were efffectively only two developers and one customer. Maintaining an aggressive R&D pace and paying attention to customer needs, I developed code and managed a team that grew to 45 people and created a product.
