Warner C. Greene, MD, PhD, is Director of the Gladstone Center for HIV Cure Research at the Gladstone Institutes and is the Nick and Sue Hellmann Distinguished Professor and Professor of Medicine, Microbiology & Immunology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Greene graduated from Stanford University (BA degree with greatest distinction) and Washington University School of Medicine (MD and PhD degrees), and completed internship and residency training in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Ongoing research in the Greene Lab focuses on the molecular basis for HIV pathogenesis, transmission, and latency and the biochemical mechanisms underlying the regulation and action of the NF-κB/Rel family of eukaryotic transcription factors. Recently the lab began study of HIV and HTLV-1 Env-mediated fusion and the mechanisms underlying transmission of HIV across the female genital mucosa. The author of more than 380 scientific papers, Dr. Greene has been recognized as one of the 100 most-cited scientists in the world. He has trained 47 postdoctoral fellows and 42 undergraduate and graduate students, not including those he currently mentors.Dr. Greene is an elected Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, and and Member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) of the National Academies of Sciences.
