I lead a regular series of adult-education classes on 19th-century British literature. Each term I pick a novel and my students and I spend anywhere from four weeks to ten weeks discussing the book, the author, and the history and background context of the work. We've read books by Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte, Lewis Carroll, George Gissing, and Robert Louis Stevenson. Occasionally we leave the 19th century to read important works by other authors such as Jonathan Swift, Voltaire, Daniel Defoe, Ann Radcliffe, E.M. Forster, D.H. Lawrence, and H.G. Wells. In 2020 we read and discussed William Thackeray's "Vanity Fair," Joseph Conrad's "Lord Jim," Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray," and George Gissing's "New Grub Street." In 2021 we read and discussed Henry Fielding's "Tom Jones," E.M. Forster's "Howards End," Jane Austen's "Persuasion," and D.H. Lawrence's "The Rainbow." In 2022 we read and discussed George Eliot's "Adam Bede," Wilkie Collins' "The Woman in White," D.H. Lawrence's "Lady Chatterley's Lover," and Elizabeth Gaskell's "North and South."

I run the Films at Fowler movie program, sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Library. I select and promote over twenty films a year, which we watch on Kanopy, an excellent (and free) video-streaming service available to patrons of local libraries. We then meet on Zoom on scheduled evenings for lively movie discussions. The selection of movies is wide ranging, including foreign films, independent movies, older classics, neglected sleepers, and festival winners.

I have taught many classes in photography at the Cambridge Center over the years, including classes on street photography, flash photography, and night photograhy. Most recently I have taught classes in digital photography and travel photography. I currently teach a one-day digital photography class called "Mastering the Digital Camera," helping students learn the many features and functions of their digital cameras.

Acton Networkers is an energetic networking and job-search group serving over 3300 past and present members in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The group meets weekly in Acton, Massachusetts, and attracts members who are interested in enhancing their networking, communication, and job-search skills in order to navigate effectively in today's challenging new world of employment. [Note: in-person meetings are currently suspended during the coronavirus crisis.] As a member of the leadership team I facilitate meetings, help arrange for speakers, and help organize meeting activities for anywhere from forty to eighty attendees each week. As part of my leadership role I have developed five hour-long presentations that are engaging, interactive, informative, and fun. The first is called "Networking from A to Z,"​ the second is "Defining Your Personal Brand,"​ the third is "Building a Job-Search Toolbox,"​ the fourth is "First Impressions," and the fifth is "Make Age Invisible." I continue to give these presentations at Acton Networkers and as an invited speaker at other networking meetings throughout the greater Boston area.

Designed and produced the second edition (2006) and the revised second edition (2011) of a 590-page engineering textbook on GPS, entitled "Global Positioning System: Signals, Measurements, and Performance," by Pratap Misra and Per Enge. Used InDesign to create the layout; Photoshop, Illustrator, and MathType to create final illustrations and equations; and Acrobat to create final book files for the printer. Also designed and produced the successful 390-page first edition (three printings) of this textbook in 2001.

Responsible for editorial preparation, design, layout, and final production of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Journal, using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, MathType, and Acrobat. Articles in the Journal represented a broad spectrum of research activities at Lincoln Laboratory, including radar surveillance, microelectronics, air traffic control, missile defense, target recognition, laser technology, and satellite communications. The Journal was published twice a year, and varied in length from 150 to 400 pages.

Authored three feature articles on research topics in computer graphics and photography. "Picture Perfect Modeling," June 2000, described the use of emerging techniques in laser scanning and 3D photography to create highly accurate 3D models. "Every Picture Tells a Story," the cover story in October 1998, described innovations in the developing field of image-based modeling and rendering. "Dirty Pictures," June 1998, described the use of photorealistic texture maps in computer graphics imagery to simulate the look of aged, worn, and dirty surfaces.
