Helped develop a model designed to inform landscape management efforts to ameliorate the effects of climate change on avian populations. Generalised linear models related species presence/absence to CORINE Land Cover data derived from European Copernicus satellite imagery, as well as to climate data supplied by the UK Met Office and Met Éirann, together with Digitial Terrain Model (DTM) and slope data. Work included analysis of data from satellite-tagged birds, which were used to adjust the parameterisation of land cover variables. Provisioned web services and GUI front-end for EBI’s Ontology Lookup Service (OLS) using Java / Spring framework. Enabled ontological search and worked on recommender system for biological terms. Coded client software mapping GWAS (Genome-Wide Association Studies) database terms to multiple biomedical ontologies. Worked on cloud-enabling EBI ontology services.

Coded web front-ends for the presentation of hydrogeological data to ecologists and meteorologists.

Assisted in several projects in the Bio-Health Informatics Group.

Developed ontology for sustainable chemistry from agricultural co-product, using semantic web technologies. Specialised in ontology engineering, graph query, and deployment of web services.

Worked on online wildlife surveys, interactive maps, and species search. Developed still-current (in 2023) online version of Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS).

Developed genetic algorithms for optimising chemical formulation and mixing processes. Implemented molecular substructure search optimisation in PostgreSQL.
