Over the past 30 years I have predominantly worked in the retail industry holding various senior management and corporate roles with some of Australia's iconic national brands. This journey started with McDonald's, and has enabled me to work with Donut King, Michel's Patisserie, Brumby's bakery, Crust Gourmet Pizza, and Cookie Man amongst others. In more recent years I was significantly responsible for growing the Soul Origin brand, and also have worked with brands such as Westpac, Vodafone, Evolution Laser Clinics, Rashays restaurants, Guzman Y Gomez (GYG), Sandwich Chefs, and various independent retailers. I have also worked on a few projects for landlords in the last 16 months. Many colleagues are aware of my experience in negotiating leases on behalf of the retailer for securing the right sites, for the right brand, amongst Australia's major shopping centres. I have completed thousands of lease negotiations and have an extensive network of colleagues for who I hold a mutual respect.Equally, I have many years of experience within the specialised franchise industry and have held consultancy & senior corporate roles, including but not limited to strategy & budgeting, systems development, operations & training, franchisee recruitment, and future brand growth. I have been involved with the Franchise Council of Australia as a committee member for many years, and am cogniscent of the governing Code. Negotiating over a thousand leases over more than 20 years has enabled me to build a solid network of contacts throughout the retail property sector. I will be able to use all of that expertise and knowledge in helping large and smaller retailers grow their business.I've also owned my own franchise and owned my own hotel. Experiences in: operating McDonald's stores; developing several retail brands; devising Development strategies; writing Operations Manuals; reviewing operations systems; and interviewing and training franchisees; for retail growth have all been part of my various roles over the past 30+ years. I have started my own business called Retail Growth Consulting. It's no secret all businesses want GROWTH. The topic was "education" but the function was "sales". I achieved high results and eventually bought the NSW franchise, which I owned and operated with a team of people. The daily training meetings in this company on how to deal with people, interact with them, and how to engage people to make positive decisions was second to none. I decided working 6 days/week until 10.30pm wasn't the best way to start married life; so I sold the business to get back into food franchising.

The exposure to the systems training, and management training complemented my teacher training, but with a greater commercial edge with regards to HR management, business acumen, and the relevance and controls over variable business costs (eg. labour costs, rostering, COG controls, and ROI for marketing campaigns). My first exposure to the franchised business model, for which I have become an advocate the rest of my working career. brilliant 'on the floor', 'customer focused', operational management training!
