dba INFITX, ModusBox Inc.'s Payment Solutions team made the transition to focus on products delivering equitable and inclusive financial services. In July 2023 the team formed a new organisation INFITX Inc with new investment, buying out the INFITX brand from ModusBox.

In the age of interoperability, along with partners from the NGO, Governmental and Commercial sectors, ModusBox is re-imagining financial services and the organisational and technical underpinnings as we help architect this new age. I am proud to be part of a driven team that is rising to the challenge of changing the status quo and driving the financial inclusion and empowerment agenda for all to benefit.

Warren consulted to financial service and technology companies to provide technical leadership that allows his clients to exploit new opportunities or transform their legacy business. Hands-on, Warren will assist clients to manages their products, architect their solution to navigate the regulatory landscape, grow or create development and operational teams, establish agile delivery and continuous delivery of product and services, transform or create the necessary business process infrastructure and scale their solution for the internet age.

Warren, working closely with the local El Salvadorian and US management teams established a distributed development and operations team that together delivered an independent mobile money solution in El Salvador and are preparing a rollout in other markets across the region. In El Salvador the solution has been sufficiently compliant to the extent that it is used by the government initiatives to reduce costs and increase the safety of social payments.Warren and the senior Mobile Money Americas team have been instrumental in shaping the payment industry in the USA where the organization has played a full role in the Federal Reserve Faster Payments Task Force and changes that the OCC has tabled.

Warren headed up the software development within the Sagentia PathoGenetix Project team to help deliver the Alpha prototype of the RESOLUTION™ Genotyping Technology. This role included: • Project managing and ownership of the software budget.• SCRUM Master for a mixed team of embedded and PC based software developers.• Liaison with Project Manager, Technical Lead and other skill teams to deliver the complex instrument.• Liaison with end customer to clarify requirements. This included securing extension work.• Documentation review and management.• Design authority for modular software platform, promoting re-use and system architecture for inter-operability.• Deployment of Windows 7 Embedded and Windows Server 2012 with SQL Server 2012 Express within the Instrument.The platform is providing the basis for the software element of Sagentia’s Modular Instrument technology. This has been proven by applying the platform to a rapid development of a Demonstration Instrument.

Warren is supporting, investment partners RedCloud Technology and Plextek, in exploiting the Identity-to-Service (I2S) Platform. Contracts to deploy the mobile money solution into several countries have been secured.

A hands-on role, where I contributed by providing technical leadership in the development of a next generation mobile services platform. I worked with the Executive Team and Board to encourage and guide the fast growing team, building on our experience in delivering M-PESA..As CTO, I was the overall technical lead and architect on the I2S platform. The I2S Platform is built on Microsoft Technology (Windows Server, SQL Server and .NET) and was hosted on a VMware vSphere private cloud. The platform had clients for Java, Android, iOS and Windows Phone, as well as Web Service API's that provided Web Clients and allowed 3rd parties to create their own clients incorporating the I2S services.Integration with existing MNO services, banking and financial services was key in different markets.

While working as a TSC Enterprise Architect within a Client’s bid team, including senior technical consultants and the CTO and CEO, Warren contributed to the design and costing of a successful bid for a pan-European cloud based solution. The solution had to support a “point-of-sale” type transaction with tens of thousands of expected client connections. To support the bid a proto-type was built and deployed demonstrating scale and through-put exceeding requirements and validating the viability of the Windows Azure Cloud based solution. This role included:• Analysis of end-customer use-cases and non-functional requirements from RFP documents.• Design of the platform architecture and interactions to minimise costs while ensuring data integrity and high availability in case of datacentre failure.• Design of a data scheme and horizontal scaling strategy for high concurrency. • Liaison with Microsoft specialists to ensure the latest understanding of the Azure platform and incorporation of support for large scale testing.• With the bid team, implementation of a proto-type, demonstrating the viability (aka. low latency) of a Windows Azure based service using IaaS, PaaS and SQL Database technologies. • Cost modelling for development, operational support and cloud services consumption. This demonstrated significant savings over a hosted solution.

Working with the technical team to review and optimise current performance and guide design decisions for the next version of their Fleet Management Platform. My contribution identified changes that could be applied that demonstrated 20 times improvement in performance within the current platform and practical design considerations for the next version of the Platform.This was a Microsoft solution hosted on a public cloud infrastructure.

Warren was the Technical Lead and Architect within the Managed Services Division of Sagentia Ltd, from 2005 to 2009. During this time Warren was responsible for technology of the multi-million pound and award winning Vodafone Money Transfer Product. It was successfully brought into operation as M-PESA in Kenya and Tanzania and as M-Paisa in Afghanistan. It was being prepared for launch in at least 3 other markets. Warren was responsible for the overall solution architecture and the entity and accounting model, this provided the flexible basis for the personalisation and growth of services delivered through the platform. He had directly managed the development team while providing oversight for the operations and deployment teams, including working with Vodafone to select suitable partners to host the Platform. The solution is an n-Tier SOA distributed platform based on Microsoft SQL and .NET technologies. It is a high concurrency and highly available solution, in particular the platform was hosted in geo-diverse locations and used mirroring and replication to provide an active/active solution. The project team grew from 3 to more than 65 people including developers, testers, deployment engineers, DBAs and country managers. This product is currently the most successful mobile money product in the world, moving more that 25% of Kenya’s GDP in 2010.

Warren contributed as a Senior Consultant to the Engineering Division on the following projects:• Helped develop strategies for an international mobile network operator (MNO) to deal with the possible impact of emerging Microsoft technologies. • To direct R&D investment for a MNO, Warren conducted a technology review on the use of Session Initiation Protocol in 3GPP Release 5 IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) therefore highlighting areas for investment with potential for higher than average ROI.• Conducted an architectural review of a web based music content delivery service for a Music Content Owner to allow them to objectively evaluate the existing solution and its ability to meet future demands. Embedded Systems projects: • A programmable embedded control system for a medical washer disinfector. • An embedded image stabilisation control system for a hand-held optical device.• Implementation of automation and data logging system for innovative laser beam profiler. • A control system for a medical colon simulator to simulate colon activity and provide quantitative test results.• Development of the novel uses of laser diodes in the generation of high power, long life light sources for operation in extreme environmental conditions for military applications.• To support the BAS exploration of Antarctica, developed signal processing software components for real-time analysis of data captured during geographically aerial surveying. • To aid in urban-warfare training, assisted in development of a real-time, indoor location tracking system, based on two of Sagentia's technologies: indoorPAD & trackMAT. This included commissioning the technology for assessment by international military equipment providers. • For use in large retail environments, Warren helped in the implementation of the next generation of an electromagnetic security system (including transfer-to-manufacture and EMC compliance) and a Windows based management application to de-skill commissioning.

The position of Software Specialist was created for Warren during his time within the Measurement and Control Division at Mintek. As part of the management team, Warren was responsible for directing the technology strategy and insuring the commercialisation of technologies. He was responsible for the architectural design and implementation of a number of control platforms and production information management systems for the minerals extraction industry. As well as implementing core code, Warren led the engineering design team that implemented these products. Products included:• PlantStar Control Platform (now StarCS): a distributed optimisation control platform.• FloatStar: a flotation control optimisation system.• FurnStar's Production Information Management system to work alongside the FurnStar sub-merged arc furnance control system.

While studying, Warren was a founding member and key technical designer of Carint Electronics cc. A design house which developed a number of: engineering tools, laboratory equipment and industrial control systems from 1992 to 1997. Including:• Custom Multivariable Thermal Control Experiment for the Control Laboratory of the University of Cape Town.• Design and implementation of sewage pump controllers for Cape Town City Council. • Design and implementation of a control system for a Rolling Road Dynamometer for Energy Research Laboratories used in vehicle emissions testing. • EPROM Emulator, ROMulator, that facilitated the downloading and testing of embedded system by programing through the parallel printer port.• Device drivers and control software for Industrialised VME Bus computer systems.
