Corral is key, because without a way to subtly ask for financial gifts, most simply avoid the topic, leaving one the biggest resources for growing their kids’ wealth –their network – on the sidelines. The app fills a major void in the marketplace – all the social tools parents need to tastefully steer and conveniently enable their network to gift their kids money for their slew of celebrations.

Managed tech team and operations for start up that provided custom audience segments for online advertisers. We used cutting edge big data technology to model high performing audiences based on multiple graphs, including social, behavioral and user intent. The system was hosted entirely on AWS and used Hadoop to build the models and Java/Tomcat/MySQL for the pixel edge network. XGraph was acquired by AddThis in November 2011.

Managed team of developers building platform components used to help power the 400+ brand websites in the MTV Networks family. The platform team’s areas of responsibility include database development and warehousing, content repository and presentation systems, data collection and aggregation systems, the broadband video delivery platform, media/asset workflows, mobile platforms, social media platform, direct marketing systems and a newly instituted centralized support group. In setting the technical strategy for the team of 150+ staff and offshore developers, I emphasized configurability and the adoption of open source, low-cost solutions. I also worked with the project management organization to implement Agile/Scrum development methodology.

Scaled Fotolog.com, a global social network and the world's largest and oldest photo blogging site, from 700th largest site on the internet to the 20th largest (according to Alexa). Site was sold to HiMedia Group for $90+ million in 2007. Site foundation was PHP/MySQL, and scaled it cost-effectively via direct, hands-on optimization of PHP, query tuning, introduction of scalable technologies such as memcache and migrated foundation of site to Java for addition of significant new functionality. Created and managed development team, introduced full development process including QA and deployment system; created and managed operations team which dramatically improved site performance, reliability, uptime and recoverability.

Managed all R&D and engineering operations for internet software company specializing in automating workflows for sales and billing processes for online advertising. Responsibilities included overseeing software development projects (scope definition, system design and architecture), maintaining 24x7 operations for environment with thousands of end users, managing IT group, managing QA group, planning infrastructure needs, evaluating outsourcing options, meeting with and determining needs of major clients. Remained very hands on in terms of doing programming, database design and providing operational support as needed for both NT and Unix. Solbright applications are J2EE/Weblogic-based running on Solaris and Linux and use Oracle 9i on Solaris and Oracle 10g on Linux. Office infrastructure was standard Windows NT/MS Office/Exchange.
