Working within the regulations that define the Medical Device and Pharma industries, I have introduced innovative hardware and software systems that streamline and error-proof counting, packaging, processing, testing and line clearance operations in the facility. In addition to reducing risk and improving the quality of the product, replacing operator dependent verifications with automated (and validated) software/hardware verifications also reduces the initial labor input as well as the exposure to cGMP violations.

Directed technical efforts responsible for factory planning, facility and equipment development, product certification and reliability, and process engineering. Led corporate activities relating to product definition and contributed at a senior level to strategic planning efforts. Participated extensively in business development activities with strategic customers and external sources of funding. Personally developed thermal recrystallization processes and optimized LASER processing tools.

Directed the technical teams responsible for process and materials development, PV module reliability and certification, test and measurement, failure analysis and process engineering. Led corporate activities relating to intellectual property and contributed to setting corporate product strategy at both the technical level and in the boardroom. Worked hands-on with lab personnel to create advanced product prototypes and with engineers to create in-situ measurement and characterization tools.

Managed all of the engineering support (including mechanical, electrical, optical, software and industrial) for a line manufacturing Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSA) and Multi-Wavelength Meters for the telecommunications industry. Performed detailed competitive manufacturing evaluations and created financial and market models to help define and justify future generations of Spectrum Analyzers.Introduced predictive management tools to manufacturing software projects, enhancing the ability of the teams to deliver finished software on time. Implemented Continuous Improvement Teams which standardized processes, yielding a 50% reduction in test failures.

While maintaining the team’s focus on the development of next generation products, broadened corporate roles to include the development of business models for the incorporation of new units, such as the nickel-plated memory disk substrate pilot line, into the Research and Development organization. Worked through a corporate merger/acquisition to fold divisions of our largest domestic competitor into the virtual teams that encompassed all Komag sites in both the US as well as South East Asia.Avoided US$25M in capital expenses by developing and implementing a single-step polishing process that allowed aging polishing equipment to be used in the production of next-generation substrates.Selected new consumable sets and optimized key process variables, resulting in a factory throughput increase of 30% and a 10% decrease in overall cost, while simultaneously improving the product quality to meet the requirements of the following generation of memory disk substrates.
