About Cynthia Watson

My vision is to build a better community to live, work and play.All politics is local. I bring proven leadership gained through experience as a Local Government Mayor, Deputy-Mayor and Councillor, which has been tried and tested during the global pandemic. Leadership matters. I lead our community with integrity, compassion, innovative problem solving and strong civic leadership that puts the needs of people at the centre of every decision. I draw on extensive professional and community leadership experience having served as a volunteer leader within my community for over 20 years including service as President of the Greythorn Park Tennis Club and Balwyn East kindergarten.I am passionate about helping women engage in politics and as the recipient of the Elizabeth Couchman Scholarship in 2019, delivered a research paper entitled 'Liberal Women in Local Government 1920-2020'. The paper explores the rich history and contribution of Liberal women to civic leadership and recommends action to support women to enter politics.I continue to serve as a local government Councillor in the City of Boroondara.
