Waverly taught the Global New Venture Challenge and Building the New Venture for Chicago Booth’s Executive MBA program and Building the New Venture in the full-time and part-time Chicago Booth MBA programs. She coached the Edward L. Kaplan New Venture Challenge for 20 years. In 2005, she received the US Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship’s Innovative Teaching Pedagogy award for the YourCo simulation that parallels the Building the New Venture class and allows students to develop and run a mock startup through the launch process. In 2015, Deutsch was honored with the Phoenix Faculty award for her contributions to the Booth student community beyond the classroom.She also wrote the footnotes entrepreneurship column in the Chicago Booth Review Magazine from Fall 2016 to Summer 2021.

Waverly led business development and financing efforts of Noon Solar, a design firm bringing to market Ecologically-friendly, beautiful handbags that incorporate solar panel technology to keep cell phones and iPods charged. The company successfully created a line of working satchel bags that launched for sale in November 2006, filed for two patents and generated significant publicity in the emerging market for green fashion before winding down in 2010.

Waverly led the marketing and strategy services NetFuel offered to technology start-ups. Helped three portfolio companies raise seed capital and venture investments, deliver credible business plans, create realistic market projections, and execute effective go-to-market plans before NetFuel merged with ARCH Development Partners in 2001.

During her seven years with Forrester Research, Waverly helped to grow the company from a twenty-person boutique market research firm to a publicly-traded recognized brand with a market cap of over $600 million and offices worldwide. She rose through Forrester's ranks - creating their unique customer service organization, analyzing computing infrastructure technologies and ultimately serving as Group Director for all of Forrester IT practices.
