Throughout my life I have been highly driven to improve the life chances, wellbeing and successes of those most vulnerable within society. I believe deeply in the value of building a connected and caring community. I am passionate about equality, creating joy and ensuring a sense of safety and belonging. My career choices and achievements to date reflect these values. I spent the early part of my career as a primary school teacher who later moved into senior leadership as safeguarding lead, SENCO and Deputy Head, and then to Headship. Throughout, I intentionally selected schools which served the most deprived communities, knowing this would enable to me to have the biggest impact for children/their families. In my role as a Headteacher, I honed exceptional leadership skills, fostering an inclusive learning environment where every individual felt safe, valued and empowered. I spearheaded initiatives to promote diversity within the school community. Through collaborative partnerships with local organisations, I implemented programs aimed at addressing social inequalities and promoting access to education for all, regardless of background or circumstance. Throughout this stage of my career I learnt an incredible amount about young people, the community, hardship and leading with excellence. Seeking a new opportunity, I took on the role at Porchlight as Head of two directorates: Community Services and Mental Health Services. This enabled me to bring knowledge and expertise from an education setting into the charity sector. Through this role I have gained much experience and knowledge relating to the challenges of poverty and how this directly effects mental health. Through strategic leadership and effective stakeholder engagement, I developed and implemented holistic support programs tailored to the diverse needs of individuals facing poverty, homelessness, mental health challenges and social isolation. By fostering partnerships with governmental agencies, healthcare providers, and community organisations, I facilitated comprehensive care pathways that promoted social inclusion, mental wellness, and sustainable livelihoods. This role has seen me managing significant budgets and resources during a time of local and national instability. I am proud to have successfully led teams across both directorates to set, monitor and achieve their aims- all of which is building towards the wider aims of the charity.
