Care and maintenance of sinking and winding ropes during the shaft sinking operation on the Anglo American Woodsmith project, rope inspections, general maintenance and vigorous non destructive testing of equipment involved with the safety of personnel undertaking shaft sinking operations

Fabricator / welder / shaftman / ropeman working in the shafts and winder department responsible for the maintenance of all winding equipment including winding ropes, skips and cages and all shaft furnishings. Other duties include slinging abnormal loads through the shaft with weights up to 28 tonnes. Major tasks carried out for example changing winding and guide ropes, sheave wheels, cheeseweight packs, conveyances, fast track head tower replacement, installation of pipe columns, feeder cables and guide rail replacement. Dewatering of shaft after major flood and complete replacement of 70 metres of shaft steelwork.
