I was temporarily promoted (Not to exceed [NTE] 120 days) to GS-12, Unit Manager, January 2011 to May 2011. I continued performing as Acting Unit Manager from May 2011 to August 2011. I was temporarily promoted (NTE 1 year) to GS-12, Unit Manager, August 2011. I was promoted to the position permanently in June 2012. I was reduced in grade to GL-9 from October 2013 to June 2014. I was returned to GS-12 in June 2012.I directed the day to day operations of three housing units. I supervised nine staff. I provided monthly training to staff on new programs and procedures. I taught classes during Admissions and Orientation, Institution Familiarization, Annual Refresher Training and Department Head Meetings. I prevented violence among inmates and have had to inform inmates of a death in their family. I provided input regarding an inmate's program needs after reviewing all available information. I prepared correspondence for the Warden regarding special projects. I assigned Staff based on institutional needs. I prepared responses for administrative remedies, congressional inquiries, and general correspondence for the Warden’s signature. I updated Institutional Supplements. I monitored several programs such as the Victim Witness Program and the Central Inmate Monitoring Program.I was an Alternate Discipline Hearing Officer (DHO). After cases were referred to me by the Unit Discipline Committee (UDC), I conducted fact finding hearings on acts of misconduct by the inmate in accordance with policy. After reviewing documentation, I determined if witnesses needed to be called. I took testimony from the accused inmate, staff and any witnesses called. I determined if the allegation against the inmate was supported and, if found guilty, I imposed penalties in accordance with established law. I prepared a record of my decisions including the disposition of the hearing and then reported my DHO activities to the Warden for his/her review.

I supervised 60+ staff and 1200+ inmates. I responded to, assessed and took action to resolve emergency situations using communication skills and, if physical force was necessary, only the minimum amount of force was used to control the incident. I used confrontation avoidance in many volatile situations, avoiding the need to use force. I secured crime scenes and evidence. I investigated allegations of inmate misconduct and prepared written reports with findings. I investigated requests for Administrative Remedy and prepared responses for the Warden's signature. I evaluated institution practices and procedures, recommending changes to deficient areas. I implemented changes to existing policies. I ensured subordinates adhered to their post orders of their assigned posts. I evaluated subordinates' work performance and completed quarterly/yearly evaluations as assigned. I ensured the security and orderly running of the institution was maintained at all time. I prepared and coordinated emergency mock exercises. I conduct classes during Annual Refresher Training and Institutional Familiarization Training.I was an Alternate Discipline Hearing Officer (DHO) since September 2009. When I determined an inmate to be guilty of misconduct, I imposed penalties in accordance with established law, prepared a record of my decision including the disposition of the hearing and reported my DHO activities to the Warden for his/her review. I constantly monitored the discipline program at FCI Safford, ensuring incident reports were processed properly and timely.

As the Special Investigative Supervisor (08-2001 to 02-2003) at FPC Yankton, I assisted the Captain in directing the correctional programs. I was responsible for investigating serious incidents such as assaults, escapes and conducted complex investigations involving staff misconduct. I interviewed staff and inmates and completed affidavits with statements. I completed reports outlining entire investigations for the Warden's signature. I met with Executive staff weekly to focus on areas of concern and update status of ongoing investigations. I maintained the urine surveillance program, Security Threat Groups and gathered any information to ensure the safety and security of staff, inmates and the community. I conducted training for staff in the handling of evidence, management of crime scenes and management of prison gang members. As Lieutenant (02-2000 to 08-2001) on all shifts, it was my responsibility to keep the institution's operations consistent with Bureau of Prisons Program Statements, Operations Memoranda, and Institutional Supplements. I supervised 25+ staff and was responsible for 600+ inmates. I was responsible for maintaining the security and orderly running of the facility. I was assigned as the Acting Captain and was called upon numerous times to make decisions regarding facility operations based on policy and my correctional knowledge. I used confrontation avoidance in many volatile situations, avoiding the need to use physical force. I secured crime scenes and secured evidence. I investigated allegations of inmate misconduct and prepared written reports with findings and recommendations to Unit Discipline Committee and the Discipline Hearing Officer. I maintained property/contraband confiscated from inmates. I investigated allegations of inmate misconduct and prepared written reports with findings. I conducted investigations of Administrative Remedies and prepared responses for the Warden's signature.

I performed as the Officer-In-Charge of the Special Housing Unit, directing staff in the handling of inmates with heightened security concerns. I investigated allegations of inmate misconduct and prepared written reports with findings and recommendations to the Unit Discipline Committee and the Discipline Hearing Officer. I investigated inmate requests for Administrative Remedy and prepared responses for the Warden's signature. Performed as the Control Center Officer, controlling and directing all prison activities and responses to emergency situations. Performed searches of inmates and areas to detect contraband. Prepared written reports to supervisors and recommended changes to improve current procedures and practices. Performed as a team member and sniper on the Special Operations Response Team with responsibilities of resolving hostage situations, clear buildings of threats, or any situation directed to resolve. I assisted staff with their questions or problems with the use of computers or computer programs.

Performed pre and post inspections of assigned tractor and trailers. Drove over the road to several locations for loading and unloading liquid products, to include hazmat. Verified loading and unloading requirements with customer. Adhered to all safety regulations and requirements.

I Supervised 200+ inmates. Trained staff in basic correctional techniques and soldier skills. Performed as Guard Commander, responsible for directing staff and resolving any issues in the Facility Commander’s absence. Performed as a member of the Special Reaction Team with responsibilities of resolving hostage situations, clear buildings of threats, or any situation directed to resolve. I performed as A Recruiter and Recruiting Stati9on Commander, responsible for recruiting new soldiers. I gave public speeches concerning the US Army and its benefits. Various duty stations to include Fort Richardson, AK; Fort Knox KY; and Manitowoc Recruiting Station, WI.
