Performed high level analysis and system level trades followed by detailed electrical designs including analog sensor circuits, power electronics, digital electronics and FPGA firmware. Example Projects : • A high speed line scan camera for use in a barcode reading applications. The camera included a high speed serial interface with embedded clock. Clock recovery was through blind oversampling utilizing the general purpose logic of a Xilinx Spartan 3. • A high speed camera for ultra-violet spectroscopy with a CameraLink interface. • Electronics for a Passive Millimeter Wave (90 GHz) camera. • An underwater optical communication system using blue light and photon counting. Included novel clock recovery and soft decision Viterbi decoding. Operated at less than 10 photons per bit and demonstrated underwater at 100 meters. •Wrote a GigE interface in VHDL supporting UDP, Ping, Arp and Echo with sub microsecond latency. • Contributed to the design of many embedded controller boards. Boards commonly included FPGAs, embedded processors, analog conditioning circuits, A/Ds, DACs, power supplies and motor drivers.

Also involved with developing and presenting proposals to new clients and obtaining additional business from existing clients. Projects for clients included a USB video frame grabber/object tracking board, a FPGA based security camera motion detection/tracking board and a video stream multiplexing system. Designed a FPGA based video processor board, that performs image scaling, picture-in-picture, chroma-keying, video filtering(time and spatial) and other functions that was sold as a product to several OEM customers. Designed NTSC and PAL video encoder IP cores that included teletext and closed captioning that were sold to customers and incorporated in internal designs. Designed the interface and control FPGA for a Texas Instruments chip tester. Supervised the chip tester board design and performed system integration and debugging. Designed the thermal control loop and implementation electronics for a satellite fiber optic gyro cluster.Designed the high speed serial interface for a large parallel processing array. Designed the interface control FPGAs and specified the physical interface. Supervised board layout/design and performed system integration and debug. Helped make system level design decisions and solve system level problems.

Designed and built a high performance auto-focus system, including actuator(US patent 6,097,552), opto-mechanics and servo design. Designed the mechanics of a 3 mirror optical resonator for a IR diode pumped UV laser. Designed and built precision linear drives with sub-micron accuracy. Consulted with other departments on various electro-mechanical and servo design problems.
