Investment ManagementWith around 25 years of asset management experience, I remain passionate about all aspects of the asset management process. From identifying investment and trading opportunities, doing detailed equity or quantitative research, exploring new approaches to investing and trading, developing related software tools, managing portfolios and developing and managing research and fund management teams. I am open-minded and tend to lead in a quite inclusive manner. My strength lies in my fundamental grounding coupled with quantitative abilities, trading experience and a risk management mind-set.Business and Fund Development and ManagementI am highly self-motivated and entrepreneurial and over the last 16 years I have been actively involved in building hedge fund management businesses from the ground up. This has included all aspects from developing and managing the funds, raising funds to manage, pulling together and managing teams of investment professionals, managing the business strategically and financially, as well as managing back-office teams. The scale has ranged from a small 7 investment professional business to a 22 staff multi-fund hedge fund business with close to ZAR2bn of FUM.Software DevelopmentThroughout my career, I have been actively involved in developing proprietary software for financial management, equity research and trading, both high frequency arbitrage and automated long term dynamic hedging. I am experienced in a variety of languages and have been involved in design and development.Client InteractionI have enjoyed been actively involved in raising funds for management, whether in the unit trust or hedge fund space. During my career I have raised over R1.6bn of FUM for the various funds that I was associated with and was the primary interface with the clients and press in terms of reporting.
