Courses expose students to a range of learning theories in which they examine existing ed-tech products in terms of how each embodies central concepts in learning. Applying principles of design, students work with a variety of fabrication technologies (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers, Arduino boards, sensors, programming languages, etc.) to design and develop innovative, evidence-based, ed-tech prototypes or novel extensions to existing ed-tech products.

As Senior Scientist with Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT), an advanced research and development program at Apple, developed and managed the Situated Technology Research (STR) user study program to design, develop, and study the use of leading-edge educational hardware and software prototypes. Most notably, led the Wireless Coyote and Cloud Forest Classroom projects, which examined ways in which mobile, wireless computing would affect how teachers and students would conduct environmental science investigations in the future. Wireless Coyote and its sequel Cloudforest Classroom helped Apple in 1991-1992 to convince the USA FCC to use radio frequencies to move data, which enabled texting and other mobile communications. FCC members viewed raw footage of the ACOT experiment in Tucson to make their decision.

Flew charter and provided mission support services for geological exploration teams throughout remote regions of the Canadian Shield in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.
