Wayne Hale is a Retired Aerospace Expert at Retired!. He possess expertise in aerospace, program management, space systems, systems engineering, engineering management and 45 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Over the course of my life, I have encountered perhaps thousands of people who have had a sprinkling of wisdom and positive effect on my personal and professional development. Then, there are a very few who, just by chance meeting, have engaged me so as to have molded my core. Wayne Hale is one these few individuals who, for me, has made a lasting impression. I had the privilege of working with Wayne, just as he became a Space Shuttle Flight Director, 25+ years ago. In that position, he was malevolent and unforgiving – just as the cruel and indifferent environment of space and spaceflight. Yet, he was also inspirational, motivational, and kind. He drove me to be the best flight controller I could be, and to be prepared for whatever the unexpected could deliver. As each of our positions diverged from flight operations, his demand for excellence continued to be the voice of my conscience. It still compels and influences my ideology today. As the SSP Manager, he led the Program with the utmost integrity and precision. Of the leaders I have known, Wayne is the most disciplined yet humble. He was a manager who, without reservation, accepted accountability when mistakes were made, whether directly or only organizationally responsible. During his NASA career, he truly inspired a generation of people and created immeasurable value to the Mission. He is easily one of the most intelligent persons I know. His accomplishments and impacts to Manned Space Flight, and the NASA family of people, are enormous and historic." and "Mr. Hale probably never had any idea of the impact he had on the people in the trenches. His e-mails to the troops were spectacular. It was always a treat to get one. It was like he was dealing with the same things we were only at a much higher level, he made you feel like we were all in this together. He didn't talk down to you, he wasn't holier than thou, he just shared his thoughts with us (and they were RICH!). I don't know what really to say about Wayne, except he was your best friend without knowing most of us. A truely amazing and gifted man."
