Although some of my personal values and beliefs have changed over the years, those that initially influenced my decision to go into the teaching profession remain important to me: to help others through the pursuit of learning to develop, grow and achieve their goals. As I traversed the extraordinarily broad field of English language teaching and learning, empowering students and teaching staff has been a primary concern. As a teacher and trainer, I have advocated a learner-based approach where students and trainees work within a collaborative and supportive environment; as an academic leader, I have tried to strike a balance between being decisive and in control and fostering cooperative workspaces that promote inclusivity, engagement and independence. I have a positive outlook and a can-do attitude and value honesty, fairness and hard work. Doing a good job and being effective are primary personal motivators.
