One of four cofounders of a start-up company developing a tracking system for helmet use by scooter riders in the East Asia, targeting India first.B2B business plan to sell the service to Insurance companies.Designed the hardware, firmware, and mechanical components for two battery powered, wearable devices that attach to a rider’s helmet. The devices have accelerometers, gyroscopes, and capacitive touch sensors controlled by an ARM processor to determine if a rider was wearing a helmet while traveling at speeds expected for scooters. One device was designed to pair with a mobile device via Bluetooth to pass helmet use data to the backend data base, the other had a cellular radio for a direct connection. Low power, usability, and survivability were all part of the design requirements. Successfully built and tested prototypes of both devices.Developed demonstrations of the devices for potential customers and investors.

I led hardware and software engineering teams responsible for the design and development of highly automated, custom designed test systems employed in functional testing of DISH Network satellite receivers and equipment. I was responsible for the conception, proposal, development, and deployment of an over $10 million deployment of test systems and continue to direct the ongoing improvement of the hardware and software to support new satellite receiver models and functions. My primary task now is increasing the talent, skills, and productivity of my engineering teams, both local and remote.

As the manager of Automated Test System Development teams I was responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the automated test system hardware and software employed to verify DISH Network satellite equipment, such as receivers, remotes, and RF switches. These ATE systems are employed to test over five million receivers annually.During this period I was selected for and graduated from DISH Network's CLIMB Executive Leadership Program, a multiyear leadership training program that accepts only the top 1% of employees at DISH Network.

As the lead engineer on Echostar's first dual tuner, MPEG4 video, DVR satellite receiver, I was responsible for hardware design and validation, publication of production and test requirements, and field support. I was also the lead engineer and developer of an MPEG satellite receiver ASIC "system on a chip" that included a custom dual MPEG transport parser, microprocessor core, SDRAM memory interface, and additional custom designed functions. I was responsible for design, validation, and fabrication of the custom IC.Finally, I was the lead engineer of a handheld video player tablet that could download video content from DISH Network DVR receivers. In this role I did the circuit design, including battery power management and LCD screen control, and wrote the firmware and software to validate the correct operation.

In this role I was the lead engineer for Echostar's third generation digital satellite receiver, a much more integrated and lower cost design. I was personally responsible for the circuit design and schematic capture, PCB design, custom ASIC design and fabrication, manufacturing support, and documentation. After release to production, this model represented the entire product line of DISH network receivers with over one million receivers deployed.I was also the lead engineer for integrated satellite receiver and DVHS digital video recorder, a joint development effort between JVC and EchoStar where I designed the digital circuitry and an custom ASIC between the satellite receiver and digital recorder. I performed schematic capture, PCB design, test software development, and support for mass production in Japan. The system was recognized for innovation at the annual CES show and by Video Magazine.

I was a member of the hardware design team developing the second generation Echostar digital television satellite receiver, responsible for circuit design, schematic capture, BOM and specification documentation, and design validation testing.
