Currently i am based at Bedford Pumping Station on Holden rd in Leigh and am responsible for an operational team of 16 that carry out preventative and reactive activities to help reduce flood risks in an area that in the Environment agency comes under the heading of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, (GMMC).to simplify, this covers areas around Westhoughton, Wigan, Warrington, St Helens Widnes and Leigh.Task range from the removal of blockages in watercourses, pumping station operation and maintenance, Flood defence construction maintenance repairs and 24hr standby callout response, the depot also accomodates a breathing apparatus team that carry out the above tasks to the underground watercourses in the same area and a fisheries team that provide suppport and iformation within there expertise. Other functions of the Agency can also be contacted through the Operations Team.As mentioned above the whole object of our existance is to prevent or reduce flood risk of which Leigh and its surrounding areas are prone to as regularly as it rains..
