During this time I worked closely with representatives from Fiserv providing information associated to the files and data content. I also developed programs and processes to identify invalid data which was used for corrective actions.

This role was responsible for the following: Staff development and training, Staff appraisals, Staff recruitment, Resource Management, Problem Management, Time Management, Vendor Management and Team Leadership. This role required high communication skills, both verbal and written. This role was also responsible for development, maintenance and adherence of procedures, work instructions and standards related to the day to day processes within the group. The team was made up by 12 resource. Myself a Senior Applications Support Officer, 5 permanent and 4 contract Application Support officers, 1 Oracle Database Administrator and a trainee DBA. Software Change Control was another responsibility for this role, this responsibility was shared with the Senior Support Officer, an MS Access database had been developed to record and report on all changes. Oncall duty rosters (schedule Oncall Managers and programmers) were maintained and weekly meetings chairedby myself to discuss any issues.

This role was responsible to the Manager Quality Assurance Information Technology. The purpose of the position was to oversee that the procedures, work instructions and standards related to the Fujitsu Mainframe development and maintenance work were being followed. The position was responsible also for implementations on the Fujitsu Mainframe and password control over live libraries. This role was both pro-active and re-active in its approach. During systems development a review process would take place to ensure the Development Method was being followed. A report would be developed during this process which would highlight the conformance and non-conformance items. This report was presented to the appropriate Manager group for review. Any issues which needed to be addressed with the Project Leader would be done straight away.

The role was responsible to the Manager Systems and Programming. The role required development of new bankingSystems to integrate within existing Bank systems and to redevelopment/ maintain existing systems on the Fujitsu Mainframe using COBOL. The Bank has it's own Software Development Methodology which is followed in this process. The role required the management and control of resources assigned to complete the development of the system. The general size of projects under my control were medium in size. The position required project schedules to be developed and maintained as well as producing management reports detailing the status of the project. Some examples of systems developed were: Cash Management Account, Cash Transaction Reporting, Redevelopment of Security Investment Deposits system, Introduction of VISA card. During this period, if there was no project work, the role would take on maintenance and problem issues. The position also required the development of system testing plans, which would be utilised to test the new or modified system.

Initially I started as a trainee learning the processes for developing COBOL systems on the Bank's mainframe. Therole was responsible to the Manager Systems and Programming. The role required development of new programs,maintenance of existing programs, problem solving, testing and documenting changes made. The Bank has clearlydefined processes and standards related to development work which have to be adhered to. Majority of theprograms I either developed or changed over this period were related to the over night batch processing systems.During this period I was also given the responsibility of being an Oncall Programmer (out of hours). In 1985 theBank sold the Fujitsu Mainframe systems to the Bank of Japan, during the modification (parameterisation) of theprograms I was given the responsibility of establishing a formalised process for system testing (integrated testing).This involved creating testing files, Bank forms that represented data entry items, miscellaneous documents tosupport the whole process. It is to be noted that this process is still used in the current environment (1999).

This role was to control a shift for running the day and night (rotation) Banking systems. This role was responsibleto the Manager Information Technology. The general functions of this role were the same as Computer Operator.

Initially I started as a trainee learning the processes for operating the Fujitsu 230/38 Mainframe and IBM S34. The Fujitsu Mainframes are used to run the Bank's core systems. The IBM S34 was used to run the Bank's cheque capture system. It was also used to sort cheques in serial order after capture. A reconciliation process was also required as part of the cheque capture system. It was the responsibility of the Computer Operations group to complete this task before over night processing could be completed. This position was responsible to the Senior Operator on shift.
