Upgraded from southern Ontario to Alberta in 1974. Worked the oil patch (AMF Tuboscope), until 1981,took time off for a year of world travel in 1979 and continued part-time while pursuing a Humanities degree at the UofA. Lucked into a Local 92 labourer's job at Dow in Ft. Saskatchewan (thanks to my father-in-law!) Landed an apprenticeship with Local 488 pipefitters and did ten years of maintenance at Chlor Alkali. Slid into operations with Dow in 1990, got a Third Class ticket, and stayed through the CA shutdown and demo. Transferred to the LDPE unit (Poly) for two years, then, again, lucked into a downsizing effort, started my own company and have been doing contract operation gigs since.
