Werner Design was started by my wife, Dee, in 1984 after she left Bill Milburn as the design department. We were a small company doing Interior Design work. Soon we moved to Design Remodeling and doing over a million dollars a year. I handled everything from office manager of six employees, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, measuring and ordering materials for jobs, Installation of blinds & shades, and even delivery of goods if needed. We are a Certified WBE firm for the State of Texas, City of Austin, and School Districts so i handled all the sales in this area, busy days sometimes. In the last five years as a HUB supplier, I have worked over 4 million dollars in sales of drywall and acoustical products.

I was hired by the GMS group travel to all their yards that were going to begin handling new products from manufactures like Armstrong, Tectum, OCF, and specialty items that i was selling while working at General Supply Company which had exclusive selling rights of these products in central and south Texas. Also to bring along some of the big sub- contractors that I had great relationships with for years. Most of the items we sold at General Supply were only available thru us which gave me a great advantage in building great relationships. Also for years in Austin i sold all the ceiling tile to the State of Texas, University of Texas, City of Austin, A.I.S.D., along with US Military. At Lone Star we were way ahead of the other companies with our ability to stock jobs with boom trucks which were made under a GMS company. The combination of new products, old customers and boom trucks, sales were good.

General Supply was one of the first company in the southwest part of the United States to install suspended acoustical ceilings, which at the time fiberglass ceiling panels were in. Soon after we also became the Armstrong dealer in Houston, San Antonio and central Texas. My boss was one of the top ceiling estimators in the country, from which I under studied directly for 2 years, I got to learn from the best.In 1980 I moved to Austin to manage and operate our office which covered all of central Texas, from San Marcos to WacoGeneral Supply was established 1918 as a lath and plaster contractor and supplier, we were also asbestos contractors, and as construction materials progressed we also moved in to drywall and acoustical products. General Supply also was one of the first metal building and steel fabricators in central Texas. Before my fathers' death, who was the owner and president, we were the top distributor in the state of Texas, which covered everywhere from central Texas, to the gulf area to the valley, we sold all the lumber yards in that area all the Owens Corning Fiberglass insulation that came thru Texas. We also were the first company to build cold storage rooms for convenient and grocery stores. First metal building builder, erected and fabricated structural steel, we had one of the top light weight concrete roof deck division in the area, Knowledge I received was the best from the best, I could not have any better training.I was also a member of Sub Contractors Group, AGC, ABC and Young Man's Christian Association, The Rotary Club and The Monday Morning Quarterback Club. At General Supply,Community involvement was necessary to show thanks for the loyal support the Community gave to us for 66 great years. Be involved, is what was taught to me.
