Wayne Power is a writer , poet and spoken word artist from Waterford city. in 2002 , he was awarded a Sean Dunne Young Writers Award for best Local ProseHaving overcome a long battle with agoraphobia , he found his way back and burst onto the "Waterford arts scene in 2019. Through the mighty Modwords , he found a voice and performed for the first time in February 2019From there he would become a regular face at Modwords. In July 2019 , as part of the Modwords Festival , his first short play 'Well Girl , Any News ? ' was performed in the Theatre Royal. His second short play 'Panda Eyes ' was featured as part of the 2020 Modwords Festival , starring Gra Kavanagh who had directed the previous years play for himHe would team up with Central Arts to curate two 'Speakers Corner events as part of the Summer In The City Festival. Following that he would MC Central Arts much loved Open Mic nightIn April 2019 , he launched the Sound Up podcast in order to highlight Waterford's thriving music and arts scene. The Sound Up Sessions would follow in March 2020 , a weekly night of music and spoken word. Held in Katty Barrys in the heart of Waterford city , it featured local musicians Ciaran Delaney and Mark WalshHis poetry and writing are unfiltered , at times gritty recalling lost nights , love , mental health and political themes coupled with a comedic edge. All of which celebrate the human condition. They are snapshots of the light and shade of city life, steeped in a fondness for where he is from , where he's been and where he hopes to goIn the autumn of 2020 , in collaboration yet again with Central Arts. As part of their Summer In The City Festival , he filmed his first spoken word videos.Directed by Ciara O'Connell and filmed by Robin Ball. The videos for 'My Town ' and 'Top of the Town ' , have both amassed over 10K views to date individuallyHe released his debut poetry collection 'Everyone's A Star After Midnight ' , through The Manuscript Publisher in 2020A 20 poem collection and culmination of. a long held dream. The book is dedicated to the underdogs , the dreamers , the mental health warriors , the unrequited , the shoulders we cry on and the torch songs we let heal us , the friends who become family and the family who become everything.'love is underrated. fear is overrated. i didn't dream it 'His second collection 'Neon Hearts and The Angry Mob ' was released in March 2022 drawing acclaIn November , his first spoken word track A Place For Us was released alongside 2Time Charlie.
