Leading and shaping the group-wide agile Solution and Technical Architecture Practice to meet and support the organization’s fast-changing technology needs. The team consisted of over 80 solution and technical domain architects all supporting a complex yet agile operational construct. The team was embedded and operated within the IT and business delivery teams, providing technical leadership whilst leveraging the collective IP of the broader architecture practice. The architecture practice was geared towards advocating pragmatic and minimal viable architectural direction to the respective business value streams, whilst aligning and delivering to a common set of enterprise-wide technological and architectural strategies.Achievements:Successful transformation of the group’s Solution Architecture discipline from a separate silo into an embedded agile architecture capability in the various business value streams, providing hands-on technical leadership and architecture runway prioritization. This included developing a sound understanding of the agile methodology, DEVOPS, and automation as business enablers. As the executive responsible for driving out the organization’s ‘Next Generation Infrastructure’ and cloud transformation strategy, we successfully shifted the group’s cloud posture to a 'Cloud First' adoption approach, using a multi-cloud service architecture. This included building an in-house cloud architecture and engineering capability to leverage both the public hyperscale service providers with local presence, as well as private cloud services built on Open Stack.

This entailed consolidating and shaping an Enterprise Architecture capability to service all of the group’s business portfolios and technical domains. Achievements:Successfully established a respected group-wide Enterprise Architecture capability, which partnered across all business and IT stakeholders to develop and drive the emerging technology strategies and the enablers required to support the respective business portfolio transformations.

Led a team of technical domain and solution architects supporting the group’s 18 plus African country franchises. This included shaping the technical blueprint and enablement of the Standard Bank Core Banking transformation and technology strategy across 18 separate country franchises. This transformation leveraged the Infosys Finacle Core Banking platform and eBanking Channel framework as the underlying technology platform, facilitating this massive migration from 6 disparate legacy platforms to a single standard implementation. Achievements:Implementing a ‘Golden Copy’ Finacle Core Banking architecture blueprint that catered for multi-entity and multi-deployment options. At the time of my moving teams, we had successfully designed a blueprint that provided 95% reuse across the different country deployments and had migrated 6 of the 16 planned countries onto this architecture.Led the initiative to build and shape the business case and required architecture to host multiple-entity deployments of the core banking and channel platform hosted on a central ‘private cloud’ construct to accommodate the smaller franchises.

I was a dedicated Solution Architect on the SAP Core Banking transformation in the Standard Bank Personal Banking IT Division. This role involved taking ownership of some of the envisaged target state architecture milestones and forming a transition plan to achieve these milestones with the respective engineering teams.

As CIO, I was required to develop a comprehensive understanding of the shifting business strategy, the need to digitize existing legacy processes and to drive automation. With this understanding, I was tasked with developing and implementing a suitable technology transformation strategy and implementation roadmap and provide a delivery team capability to enable this transformation. In addition to the CIO role, I was appointed as the GM to oversee the transformation of UTi’s numerous local BU contact centres into a national contact centre. Responsible for defining and implementing an overall contact centre operational blueprint and technical solution for both the courier line of business and for extending this into the broader group.

Required to facilitate and implement an effective development strategy to support the end-to-end IT delivery lifecycle of separate business products within Standard Bank. This included ensuring the technology architecture and delivery roadmap was aligned to the specific business objectives and the overarching Group IT strategy.

Led a technical team which oversaw the development and implementation of a contact centre consolidation strategy. The strategy facilitated the migration of 40 different customer sales and service desks onto a single integrated contact centre sales and service platform. The integrated platform included multi-media, integrated telephony, workflow, work force management, and a common integration layer that exposed multiple backend systems. In addition to the strategy, I was responsible for ensuring there was an optimal IT delivery and support model to manage this service. This entailed ensuring the IT delivery and support, provided though my team of over 40 technical sme’s, was of the highest standard to meet our customers’ expectations and integrated 1000 plus seat Contact Centre and all within budget.

These initiatives were critical to laying the foundation for the envisaged integrated contact centre customer experience.
