An accomplished Executive who has extensive experience in financial, IT and people management, combined with a track record in leading, developing and working with senior professionals in multi-disciplinary teams. Oct 2018 - Present

Director Of Library Services

London, Gb

The strategic aim of my service was to empower the organisation in its mission of providing high quality postgraduate medical education, and in the exchange of information that will transform science, practice and the organisation of medicine.I worked in an environment where I had to balance user needs with the desires of 55 specialist medical sections/societies that constitute the Royal Society of Medicine, combined with the views and financial constraints expressed by a Council of Trustees. I was solely responsible for the department budget of £1.5 million and procurement of information resources.I was part of the RSM Council (governing body) where I made a strong business case that investment in the Library would help to retain RSM Membership and assist in the process of attracting new Members (including corporate clients). The Library received extra investment in e-resources and over 32,000 people visited the Library in 2017 (compared with 22,000 in 2010). The number of downloads to the new e-resource collection has grown to over 1,000,000 in 2017 (compared with 250,000 in 2014).I devised and implemented three successful library strategies that transformed the Library from paper based to electronic resources, which were available to the membership world-wide. In addition, the Library moved to providing more information products and services rather than being a statistic entity. This development allowed the Library and its team to evolve and become more responsive to user needs. Through my work in and with the NHS, I have developed an excellent understanding of the political drivers and policy imperatives, which I utilized to advance projects to their completion. I have led groups of fellow professionals tasked with considering how national and local information services need to respond strategically to wide ranging and far reaching organizational changes.

Sep 2006 - May 2018

Knowledge & Library Services Manager

Gb

My main responsibility was for the management and strategic development of two Libraries and three Community Resource Rooms in support of multi-disciplinary clinical education, research and patient care. The catchment area for the service was the northern part of Northamptonshire. In April 2002, the NHS went through a major restructure. Because of my networking skills, I was asked by my peers to represent them at the national forum for NHS health librarianship and subsequently became part of the National Library for Health (NLH). I held this role for a period of four years. I was also part of various working groups. I chaired certain discussion forums and made formal presentations. For example, while representing the South-East region I developed a Workforce Confederation Toolkit that was a training programme designed specifically for health information professionals working within the NHS. In addition, I led an NLH task group that considered how national and local library networks need to respond strategically to wide-ranging and far reaching NHS organisational changes. In April 2004, I was asked by both the Hospital and LNR Strategic Health Authority to become part of the NHS Agenda for Change project. This was the largest review of pay, conditions and working practices that the NHS had undertaken since it was established in 1948. I was seconded to Human Resources for two days a week and worked on the Job Evaluation Review Panel. This opportunity gave me insight into the workings of HR. For example, in redesigning job descriptions so that they were more meaningful and captured the important elements of the work undertaken; and in restructuring the department to support newly introduced work processes.

Jan 2001 - May 2006

Senior Archivist

Swindon, Wilts, Gb

I was appointed to the position of Senior Archivist and was solely responsible for Nationwide’s records management function. Whilst in this position, I devised and developed new procedures and practices to address business needs. May 1993 - Aug 2000

Computer Operator

Swindon, Wilts, Gb

I was initially appointed as a Trainee Computer Operator. Subsequently, I was promoted to the positions of Computer Operator and Advanced Computer Operator.
