As Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Risk Officer, H. Wayne Soza is responsible for oversight of El Paso Electric’s Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management programs. I also lead the Safety, Security, NERC and CIP Compliance and Claims Departments.Soza joined El Paso Electric in 2006 and has served in various capacities, including Vice-President of Human Resources. Prior to El Paso Electric, Soza served as Vice-President for Archstone Communities, a real estate investment trust company, and as a Senior Manager for Ryan and Company. He also worked for more than 18 years at El Paso Natural Gas Company. Soza served as Chairman of the Edison Electric Institute Risk Management Committee. He serves as a member of the AEGIS Risk Management Advisory Committee. In addition, he also serves as a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee and the Underwriting Task Force for Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited.Soza holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. His civic and community affiliations include Board member with the United Way of El Paso and the El Paso Downtown Management District, past Board member of the Child Crisis Center, past President of Kiwanis of El Paso, Leadership El Paso and YMCA youth coach.

• Directly responsible for managing several multi-million dollar portfolios of properties’ real estate tax appeal activities which resulted in tax savings of approximately $4.5 million. • Represented major national clients such as El Paso Electric Company, Darden Restaurants, Laramar Group, Manor Care, and Mars Incorporated in providing expertise in the specialized areas of property tax consulting.

 Managed a $5.5 billion real estate portfolio and coordinated real estate and personal property tax appeal activities resulting in tax savings of approximately $10 million. Served on and/or led various management committees that dealt with various issues such as process management, team building, employee relations, and customer service while implementing new, innovative and executable strategies. Coordinated the property tax budgets and forecasts for 300 major U.S. market properties in both operating and development. Oversaw the property tax department integration in connection with the merger and acquisition of Charles E. Smith Residential, which resulted in a combined market capitalization of $10 billion.

 Managed the payment of taxes which exceeded $100 million annually. Negotiated favorable property tax settlements resulting in savings to the company of approximately $10 million. Company spokesperson at state board hearings and other legal proceedings. Worked to establish and maintain strong relationships with state legislators and tax officials of several southwestern states and Indian Nations. Monitored and analyzed state legislation to identify company related exposure.
