My research projects involved two different molecular motor/nanotechnology efforts. My contributions to the first molecular motor project involved characterizing the efficiency of a variety of light-driven molecular motor prototypes using pulsed lasers, absorption spectroscopy, and NMR and chromatographic analyses. For the second project, I helped design and build an optical method for generating and studying spatially confined (trapped) ions in highly excited rotational states.
Las Vegas, Nevada
While in the High Pressure Science and Engineering Center at UNLV, I helped build and maintain Raman spectrometers and fluorimeters for diamond anvil cell use. My research involved the study of explosives at high pressures and temperatures, and the syntheses of super-hard materials at high pressures and temperatures. Both research aspects involved synchrotron x-ray use at the Advance Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory.
