• Duties included disconnecting, removing and re-installing all manner of printing equipment, installing building services and servicing of the same, this involved mains and control wiring, lighting, general power, etc.• Worked with a tradesman as I progressed from apprentice to electrician and then to chief electrician.• Responsible for a large spare parts store inventory which encompassed electrical/electronic parts used throughout the plant including ordering of said parts and maintaining budgets.• Managed all electrical services including the workshops and supervised one other electrician. • Designed and installed a main plant switchboard together with power factor correction equipment, designed/built a multiple air compressor controller and numerous motor control centres.• Designed and implemented building alterations, ergonomic lighting and ergonomic furniture to accommodate a technological change to electronic pagination for local newspapers that the company owned.• Installed a Wang main frame computer together with a dedicated room equipped with raised flooring and air conditioning including data cabling from the computer to the main administration areas.• Installed a new drive system on one of the main printing presses plus changed the relay control system to PLC control.• Designed and co-supervised the mechanical/electrical installation of a large multi-unit printing press and associated infrastructure together with building alterations.• Whilst serving apprenticeship were temporarily transferred to an electrical contractor where I worked at Shell, Dulux, ICI, Wellington Hospital, NZIG, Mobil and some residential installations.
