Wayne is currently back in South Africa and open to managerial consulting roles in the African region. He recently completed a stint in Sudan where he oversaw the Mining division of a large privately owned conglomerate over a period of 3 years.He left Sierra Rutile at the end of 2016 after the successful acquisition of the company by Iluka. At departure he was the Chief Operating Officer. Previously he was the Chief Executive Officer at Norilsk Nickel Australia. He had been with Norilsk Nickel, formerly LionOre, since 2006 when he was approached to head up the operational aspects of the then Activox project in Botswana. This involved building a team of competent people to skill up, train, commission and then operate the unique Activox Refinery. In 2009 he moved to Tati Nickel Mine as Head of Metallurgy. In August 2010 he moved back to South Africa to assume the role of Executive Operations for Norilsk Nickel Africa which has a 50:50 JV partnership with African Rainbow Minerals over Nkomati Mine near Machadodorp. He was appointed Managing Director of NN Africa in February 2011. Wayne was the Chairman of the Steering Committee overseeing the mine and was also on the Executive Committee of the partnership. In Botswana he was on the Board of Tati Nickel Mining Company. In this role he chaired the committee of Production and Strategy for the mine and was on the Committee for Human Resources and Remuneration.Prior to this Wayne spent most of his career, which began in 1987 with Anglo Platinum, in particular on the pyro metallurgical operations at Waterval in Rustenburg. A short stint was also spent at RBMR, the base metal refinery of Anglo Platinum, before moving across to a newly formed projects company K’Enyuka (the Minerals Processing arm of RSV) in 2003. As Consulting Metallurgist he was responsible for sourcing and implementing new projects on the metallurgical front.Wayne Venter has a National Higher Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy from Wits Technikon, a Management Development Programme from Unisa, completed the Anglo American Advanced Executive Program through GIBS University and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
