As a member of the U.S Navy JAG Corps from 1977 through 1980, I was primarily involved in the prosecution of criminal cases for the Southern California Naval District. In that time I prosecuted over a hundred criminal trials, involving major felonies.From 1980 through 1988 I was an associate and Shareholder at Pravel, Gambrell, Hewitt and Kimball in Houston, Texas. That firm specialized in intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets etc, both from the acquisition and enforcement or defense in litigation. I became a shareholder in 1984, and a managing shareholder in 1987. From 1988 through 1998 I was a partner at Fulbright and Jaworski, and head of the Intellectual Property practice in the Austin , Texas office. I was lead counsel in many major intellectual property lawsuits in that time. Clients represented included Dell Computer Corporation, Neon Systems, Inc., Intervoice, Inc. First Data Inc., AMD, Sematech, Staktek and many others.Specialties: My background, education and litigation experience are focused in the areas of computer hardware and software intellectual property matters, although I have litigated intellectual property cases in areas such as oil and gas technology, medical device technology, and telephony.
