Technology / Engineering based SME's often have a very strong engineering capability, and a deep understanding of what their products do, and how they do it. However, they also often find it difficult to exploit their products to the full, and build a business growth strategy around the core competence. My experience and skill set is focused on taking good basic engineering and turning this into a successful growth business. This includes many aspects such as bringing "product design" into "product engineering" teams, identifying the fundamental end user benefits and aligning development with this, articulating the market opportunity and developing this into a marketing strategy. Ultimately this creates value for shareholders and stakeholders in the business and is equally, and often more so, applicable to mature businesses as well as new technology start ups.I have worked with Private Equity, owner managers and corporate enterprises, bringing a very value based analysis of technology, market opportunity and formulation of growth strategy. Having led design teams, managed departments and been CEO of small and global businesses I understand both the theory of strategy and the day to day challenges of turning this into a successful business.Towards a low carbon economy.After completing an MBO at IDE Systems in 2019 I am applying my business principles to create a leading player in the temporary power market. IDE is building on its valued reputation in design, manufacture and rental of temporary power distribution systems, and adding innovative power monitoring and control solutions to help with the drive towards net zero carbon. By enabling remote monitoring of power, identifying wastage and balancing need vs generation IDE is playing its part in moving towards a sustainable future.
