I speak on the art and design of the American ocean liners built between 1927 and 1962. I've never given the same talk twice, as new images and information come to light between engagements.I've two presentations in rotation: (1) the PRESIDENT JACKSON-class (1940), the only ships to have benefited from a mural and sculpture competition held by the Section of Fine Arts. (2) The Art and Design of Matson's Postwar Liners. After World War II, Industrial Designer Raymond Loewy remade the LURLINE into a Polynesian paradise in the mid-century modern vein.I've presented at the Council of American Maritime Museums (2019), the World Ship Society -- Port of New York Branch (2020, 2024), and the UK-based Ocean Liner Society (2023).
