• Developed a custom desktop application which queries the FDM SQL database, performs calculations and statistical analysis, and presents a key performance indicator (chute times) in a concise graphical format. The application is written in Python and makes use of the Scientific Python (SciPy) library for statistical analysis, matplotlib for creating the charts and wxPython for the graphical user interface.• Developing a custom application to identify the frequency and duration of ambulance shortages, or “Code Red” situations, a key indicator of department resource utilization.• Leading the implementation of a new SharePoint Document Management System for maintaining department policies, procedures, operating guidelines, patient care reports and other documents. This project includes the design of content types, workflows, document versioning, security roles, notifications and retention policies.• Leading the evaluation and implementation of a new departmental staff scheduling system. The software package will be used by the department on a daily basis for assigning and tracking department members, shifts, emergency vehicles and resources.• Creating customized reports using FDM Report Builder, including selection of the required database tables and fields, building custom queries and variables, and report layout and formatting.• Providing input on the project for procurement of mobile data terminals (MDT) for fire apparatus.• Troubleshooting problems with the Locution Automated Dispatch System.• Requisitioning, installing and testing of hardware and software to support departmental activities.• Supporting departmental staff in their use of their computers, software and smart phones.• Preparing documentation for support and training as required.

Projects include a web-based application for analyzing and reporting on labor market data, and a desktop application for tracking crop acreage quotas. Each application is backed by a PostgreSQL database with multiple relationships.* Provide clients with support, documentation, training, ongoing maintenance, addition of new features, and hosting of applications.* Provide technology consulting services, including recommendations and comparisons of software and hardware solutions based on existing infrastructure, needs and budget.* Provide general IT support and services for local businesses and organizations.

Calgary, Canada Area

* Development, maintenance, testing and customer support of the cross-platform thermal petroleum reservoir simulator STARS. Work included extensive use of MS Visual Studio IDE for coding and debugging, and IBM ClearCase for source control, branch merges and release management.* Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of operating systems and tools on server hardware. Responsibilities included compiler installation and configuration, operating system upgrades, Makefile maintenance, building and testing, and virtual machine management on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, IBM AIX and Windows XP x64.* Created custom software tools to support the ongoing development of STARS. Typical tools were a code browser to allow greater understanding of code architecture, a simulator dataset generator capable of creating multi-million grid cell reservoir models, a simulator output processor which exported results to MS Excel, and a simulator testing automation script.* Implemented shared-memory parallelism in STARS to take advantage of multi-processor machines. This work resulted in performance improvements of up to 8x over serial execution. Ongoing responsibilities included testing of code for thread-safety and identification of bottlenecks.* Designed and implemented new STARS features according to customer requests. Responsibilities included gathering customer requirements, implementation according to technical specifications, testing, documentation and ongoing maintenance and support.* Co-ordinated the STARS release process including building, testing and delivery of the software on all supported platforms (Linux32, Linux_x64, IBM AIX, Win32, Win_x64).* Provided support to STARS customers including troubleshooting, recommending data changes for improved performance, running customer data on CMG hardware, and providing guidance for using STARS on less familiar platforms such as Linux.

* Developed advanced MS Excel spreadsheets for the design and rating of chemical/petroleum process separators, based on accepted industry design standards.* Provided support for using the spreadsheets and modifying according to customer requests.* Applied the spreadsheets in the rating of existing process vessels.* Provided engineering consulting services for oil and gas processing facilities design.

* Developed a cross-platform software framework supporting an object database, object model, and plug-in components for engineering calculations and data management.* Created a software toolkit for developing applications built upon the framework.* Used the framework and toolkit to develop a new engineering software package.* Integrated third-party software technology into the new product.* Researched, implemented and tested new modules for the product.* Coordinated all development activities for the new product, including specification of features, scheduling and bug tracking.* Maintained a Linux CVS server for project source code control.* Developed software documentation including user guides, sample problems and solutions, and technical articles.
