The application is written in Python and makes use of the Scientific Python (SciPy) library for statistical analysis, matplotlib for creating the charts and wxPython for the graphical user interface.• Developing a custom application to identify the frequency and duration of ambulance shortages, or “Code Red” situations, a key indicator of department resource utilization.• Leading the implementation of a new SharePoint Document Management System for maintaining department policies, procedures, operating guidelines, patient care reports and other documents. This project includes the design of content types, workflows, document versioning, security roles, notifications and retention policies.• Leading the evaluation and implementation of a new departmental staff scheduling system. The software package will be used by the department on a daily basis for assigning and tracking department members, shifts, emergency vehicles and resources.• Creating customized reports using FDM Report Builder, including selection of the required database tables and fields, building custom queries and variables, and report layout and formatting.• Providing input on the project for procurement of mobile data terminals (MDT) for fire apparatus.• Troubleshooting problems with the Locution Automated Dispatch System.• Requisitioning, installing and testing of hardware and software to support departmental activities.• Supporting departmental staff in their use of their computers, software and smart phones.• Preparing documentation for support and training as required.

Responsibilities included compiler installation and configuration, operating system upgrades, Makefile maintenance, building and testing, and virtual machine management on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, IBM AIX and Windows XP x64.* Created custom software tools to support the ongoing development of STARS. Typical tools were a code browser to allow greater understanding of code architecture, a simulator dataset generator capable of creating multi-million grid cell reservoir models, a simulator output processor which exported results to MS Excel, and a simulator testing automation script.* Implemented shared-memory parallelism in STARS to take advantage of multi-processor machines. This work resulted in performance improvements of up to 8x over serial execution. Ongoing responsibilities included testing of code for thread-safety and identification of bottlenecks.* Designed and implemented new STARS features according to customer requests. Responsibilities included gathering customer requirements, implementation according to technical specifications, testing, documentation and ongoing maintenance and support.* Co-ordinated the STARS release process including building, testing and delivery of the software on all supported platforms (Linux32, Linux_x64, IBM AIX, Win32, Win_x64).* Provided support to STARS customers including troubleshooting, recommending data changes for improved performance, running customer data on CMG hardware, and providing guidance for using STARS on less familiar platforms such as Linux.
